Actually, this is really my first attempt at any art period.  Especially computer art.

Anyway, I was playing around with the archaic PhotoDraw version 2.0 on my ancient desktop computer and ended up doing this.  Making hair with this program is really difficult...I wonder if it's easier with Photo Shop?  I had a ton of fun playing around with it and now want to upgrade my software.

Happy belated birthday [livejournal.com profile] lady_karelia !

Happy birtday [livejournal.com profile] lillithj !

I hope you both had wonderful birthdays!  It was so lovely to meet both of you at Portus!

And I've also heard a rumor that it's a certain Potions master's birthday today as well...so happy birthday Severus Snape!

Warmest wishes on your birthday [livejournal.com profile] sc010f !  It's been a joy to get to know you these last few months and squee over Latin geeky goodness.  Harrius Potter et Philosophi Lapis to the max!

I received a rather nasty message asking about the status of MoW, so I thought I'd jot a quick note here to update anyone who might still be following the story.

After a long spell of being horribly discouraged about MoW (I just can’t shake the feeling that it's one of the reasons people call FFN the ‘Pit of Voles’), I managed to get a pretty good start on chapter 25 over the weekend. Now that my Exchange fic is complete, I’m going to focus my attention on finishing not only the chapter, but the entire story.   I hope my muse cooperates.

I am sorry for the delay.

While I watched the new int HBP trailer a few times, I replayed the 1.5 seconds of Snape walking with his DE entourage over and over.

Squee!  You know you have it bad when you're jumping out of your seat over footage so short, you'd miss it if you blinked.

I worked on MoW a little today.  The progress has been VERY slow on this chapter and I feel rather guilty about it.  Times have been tough, and I fear my muse has suffered greatly.  Things seem to be slowing down a bit in RL, so I do hope she comes out of hiding very soon.  In good news - I'm in the final tweaking staging of my Exchange fic.  *sighs in relief*

The happiest of all happy birthdays to [livejournal.com profile] themoreyouclean !  Portus wouldn't have been the same if I hadn't met you.  I hope you had a lovely birthday!  *hugs*

I'm nervous.  Really nervous.

Tomorrow I have to give a presentation in front of a smallish crowd of probably 30 people.  Despite my extreme shyness, I thought I was okay with it -  I really did!  But I'm beginning to feel extremely jittery.  I think that if it were a group of peers, I'd be less nervous, but my brain has decided to finally acknowledge the fact that I'll be speaking in front of mostly older men that have been in the industry longer than I've been alive...and I'm scared.  Officially.  I mean, these guys nice and all, but they still scare magic petunias out of me.  To make matters worse, this is the first time I've ever done anything remotely close to a presentation.  Yup.  Apparently I don't wade in - I jump in.

I *think* I'll be okay if I can keep my nervous giggle habit at bay.

Okay.  Calm.  Deep breaths.

Nope.  I'm still as nervous as a Longbottom in potions class.

[profile] hilaritasetlux drew a scene from MoW!!!  *jumps up and down excitedly*

This is a scene from chapter 9, in which Severus is stuck sitting in a hospital bed at St Mungo's.  I love his hair!  It's just perfect.  [profile] hilaritasetlux drew it to bribe my muse.  It seems to have worked because I've written more in the last two evenings than I have in probably an entire month.  Thanks for the inspiration H, and keep up the drawing!

*skips off, clutching picture to chest*

Happy birthday [profile] emmeline33!  You're a great writer (Anthem is just awesome) and it's been fun having you on my flist!  I hope your day was lovely!

A toast to [personal profile] dickgloucesteron her birthday!

It was a joy meeting you and getting to hear you read some of your fic at Portus.  Squee!

A while back,

[profile] hilaritasetlux gave me a challenge to write if I got stuck on The Magic of Wands. Well, I got horribly stuck yesterday, so I decided to write her challenge.  It's short, not beta-read, and unpolished...so proceed with caution.

I'm late on making a post about Portus, I know.  I've yet to locate the cable for my camera, so I haven't uploaded any photos yet.  I'll post them once said camera cable is found.  Not that I got many great pictures...I managed to leave my camera behind a few times.  Also, I'm more of a gawker than a snapper.

Well, Portus was a great time!!  I've been blathering on about it all week!  I took a huge step out of my shell and attended this large function alone.  While the formal programming wasn't great, the people were absolutely lovely!  Everyone was so friendly and made me feel most welcome.  The cosplayers were beyond cool ([personal profile] droxy looked so much like the sexy feared PM, that I was reduced to a bumbling idiot upon encountering her).  I'm so grateful to have met notplainjane ([profile] themoreyouclean), who I stuck to like glue.  I would've been lost and frightened without her.

The SSHG meet-up on Saturday was great fun, though I did take notplainjane and I to THE WRONG Marriott first.  Poor SW69 even went looking for us because we called to let her know we were there, but couldn't find the conference room (which was, of course, because we were at the wrong hotel).  LOL.  I also managed to throw my (automatic transmission) Jetta into neutral while driving, which made my tires squeal loudly and the car jerk horribly.  My poor car.  After our little adventure, I'm sure notplainjane will avoid getting into a car with me as the driver again!  :)

I'm already looking forward to attending another convention.  I wonder, which one will it be?

Finally!  After an epic struggle with my muse and several re-writes, chapter 23 of The Magic of Wands has been posted!

This week has flown by and Portus is quickly approaching.  I'm officially attending on Friday and will be lurking on Saturday.  This is my first convention and I'm going alone, so if you see a short girl looking extremely lost and frightened, that'll be me.  :)

I've never been tagged before....this is the first time I've done something like this!  :)

Tagged by: [personal profile] sc010f
A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."

1. I'm a vegetarian.
2. I'm a recovering nail biter.
3. When I crave chocolate, I'll do *almost* anything to get it.
4. I'm a lefty.
5. I'm seemingly immune to mosquito bites...I've never had one.  Perhaps due to #6.
6. I love garlic.  Roasted garlic on toast = bliss.
7. I have a collection of small collections (a stamp collection, coin collection, doll collection...even a rock collection).

I don't know many people here yet, so I'll have to tag my entire friends list to get seven: [personal profile] hobgoblinn, [profile] lillithj, [personal profile] miamadwyn, [personal profile] nocturnus33, [profile] septentrion1970[personal profile] tambrathegreat, [personal profile] kingpig

I recently accepted a new position with my company and will be making the official transition on Monday.  It's been bittersweet because while this is a huge step and I'm looking forward to the new challenges ahead of me, it's also a bit sad because I loved my bosses (I had two).  Over this last week, I've been training a new replacement, which has gone well (phew!), but has been a bit tiring.  My usual 40-50 hour work week quickly grew into over 60 hours.  The poor girl I'm training must be terrified.

Friday being my last day before switching positions, the bosses took me out for a farewell lunch (but it's not really goodbye since I'll just be moving up a floor in our office building).  After we ate, they handed me a wrapped box that was surprising heavy for its size.  We all got a bit choked up and they told me it was a 'thank you' for all that I've done for them.  I was a bit teary-eyed and began to open the box, expecting it to be a plaque or something.  What I wasn't expecting was a Wii.  Which is what I got.  And I was shocked.  Extremely shocked.

I *almost* jumped up and ran around in circles screaming "I got a Wii!  I got a Wii!", but thought better of it when I realized that a few tables around us were already glancing at us with rather disturbed expressions on their faces (no doubt a result of the multiple squees of delight I was unable to suppress upon unwrapping the box).  I've been wanting a Wii for quite some time, but it seemed that each time I had the extra money, I couldn't find one or something else would come up.  So here I sit with very sore arms from getting perhaps a little overzealous while trying it out last night.

Of course, one of the first things I did was make a Severus Snape Mii...which didn't please my boyfriend much because I created it before I created his.  Oops.

So, tomorrow I will be chaining myself to either my laptop or handy notebook to write.  I need to make a huge dent in my next chapter of The Magic of Wands, because there's no doubt I'll be very busy in my new position for the foreseeable future.

Looks like I have a bit of traveling to do still...
